What IS an Apostille?
The apostille certifies to the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the person signing the document has acted and where appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the document bears.
Or, in other words an Apostille is simply the name for a specialized certificate, issued by the Secretary of State.
The Apostille is attached to your original document to verify it is legitimate and authentic so it will be accepted in one of the countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961.
The process depends on what legal documents you have, if you have originals or copies, where they originated (Texas or another state) and what country they’ll be submitted to.
Example – say a company wanted to move an employee to Italy,. The employee may need to have his/her birth certificate, FBI Letter, and college degree Apostilled.
If family is moving with him, they will need some of the same things for them as well.
